Returning to Work

Shortly after a woman gets pregnant she often has to start thinking about childcare for when she returns back to work. Daycare centers may have long waiting lists. Finding a nanny, babysitter or au pair takes time and expectant parents find themselves in unfamiliar territory. Each family is unique and their needs are specific to their family dynamic. Where do I start? How will I know what I need when the baby isn't even born yet?
I often hear from expecting moms that they are not sure how they are going to incorporate breastfeeding into the workplace. How do I know which brand/model pump to purchase? Will my insurance company cover the pump I choose? How will I find the time to pump and breastfeed? Will there be a private and clean place to pump at work? How will I collect and safely store milk? How will I keep my supply up? What if I don't make enough milk while I am away from my baby? What will I do if I must take a business trip? What if my baby won't take a bottle? What if I need to give her formula and she doesn't like it? How will I wean her? No sooner does it seem like mom and baby have established a breastfeeding routine, when it is time for mom to transition back to work.
As a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor I can help you make a stress-free transition back to work. By providing educational and emotional support, I can help you make decisions that work best for your specific situation. Because babies are constantly changing we take one day at a time. I offer several feeding options making modifications as necessary to ensure a smooth transition.
